The tragedy with tragedies is that they have a short shelf life as far as public memory is concerned. A majority of us are so caught up in today's rat race that our memory cache will absorb more information that it can handle especially if it is disturbing. Some events, however, have the ability to transcend such mental fireway. The Tsunami tragedy last December was one such. One year on, it still haunts us, because it was an unusual occurrence, the like of which had not been witnessed in the past 45 years. Natural disasters are endemic to this part of the world but Tsunami was such a novel experience that the horrible and devastation was magnified. Close to 3,00,000 people lost their lives by the time the killer waves receded. It was a global disaster in the manner in which the entire international community, Government and private, responded so overwhelmsingly and with such alacrity. As in such disasters, it is the underprivileged who suffer the most and are forgotten the soonest
